A Traditional English Choral Evensong
On Sunday, June 22, at 5:00 p.m., while Fr. Ricardo is enjoying Evensong services in England as part of his sabbatical, St. Luke’s will host its very own Evensong service right here in our sanctuary. Come join us to take part in this contemplative practice. A reception will follow the service.
The service of Evensong, while deriving from the medieval evening prayer service of “Vespers” (as it is still called in the Roman Catholic Church), finds its expression in the Book of Common Prayer. Evensong can be heard sublimely in Anglican and Episcopal cathedrals throughout the world. In that tradition, we will offer it to you here at St Luke’s Episcopal Church. As a meditative service giving choral voice to our responses to the readings and to our prayers and to our hearts’ yearning, we seek in the stillness and the music tranquillity for the coming night that we might rise refreshed and reinvigorated to live out God’s Love into the world.
