Book Club
Friends, our St. Luke’s Book Club is back! Join us Tuesday, November 18, at 6:00 p.m., as we discuss a little gem of a novel, Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand, by Helen Simonson, from 2010. With so much bad news in the world these days, we thought we’d keep it light with a sweet story from England, complete with tea & a late-in-life romance. This well-written book is a quick read, but do get your copy right away and start in.
Our meeting will be held in the Parish Hall Lower Annex, a large room downstairs from our main parish hall that many of you have never seen. Please let the rector know if you have any mobility concerns, and we’ll make sure you can get to our meeting spot with ease. We also hope to offer this meeting simultaneously on Zoom, for those who can’t make it in person.
Alexander McCall Smith had this to say in his March, 2010, New York Times review of the novel: “Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand is refreshing in its optimism and its faith in the transformative possibilities of courtesy and kindness. Although pitched toward those wanting a gentle read, it also slides a powerful moral message into the interstices of village politics.” We know you’ll enjoy it, too!
The book is available wherever you buy your books online, as well as at your local library. Happy reading!
