Liturgical Season Series
with Professor Eugene Schlesinger
Join us the first weekend of Lent for Part Two in an ongoing series on the Church’s liturgical seasons, with Professor Eugene Schlesinger. This talk will focus on Lent, Holy Week, Easter, and Pentecost. The discussions will be held after each service that weekend, 6:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8, and 11:45 a.m. Sunday, March 9.
Here’s some info from Gene himself:
As we begin the season of Lent, we approach the heart of the church’s liturgical year, which reaches its climax in the liturgies of Holy Week, Easter, and Pentecost. The unfolding of the mystery of salvation is the engine that drives Christian approaches to keeping time.
In this talk, St. Luke’s parishioner, and Santa Clara University religious studies professor, Eugene Schlesinger, explains how it all fits together, beginning with the time when the only “Easter” was the one that happens every Sunday. Along the way, we’ll consider some ways to make the most of the Lent-and-Easter cycle, which invites us not so much “to feel gloomy for forty days,” as to make space for a fuller life in the risen Christ.
