Reading the Bible As If It Matters

Join us on Zoom for this enlivening, enlightening course led by parishioner Elane O’Rourke, who will guide us through an overview of the Bible and how it applies to our actual, everyday life of faith. The course is free but you must register, and all are welcome!
Below is a description of the course from Elane.
If you are seeking a deeper or different kind of relationship with God, your old views of the Bible will not help you. You need fresh eyes and new ways of understanding our shared written history as beloved children of The Really Real God.
The Bible is not a set of rules nor a science textbook. Reading it in that kind of shallow way makes it a stumbling block between you and the Divine. Nor is it merely ancient literature, a collection of myths.
The Bible is a record of God’s constant outreaching love for you, for other people, and for creation. When you read it soulfully and mindfully, God speaks into your current situation and experience. You gain both a cosmic view of the great mysteries, and a way of entering into the With-God life.
Led by St. Luke’s parishioner (and lector) Rev. Dr. Elane O’Rourke, “Reading The Bible As If It Matters” is a five-session Zoom course that will give you the skills and perspective you need to read these 66 (or more!) books historically, contextually, prayerfully, and insightfully.
We will meet Tuesdays at 5:00 starting January 7. Can’t make a meeting? Watch the recording!
