The Church at Prayer: History & Theology of the Daily Office
A Talk by Eugene Schlesinger
Join us in our Parish Hall after the worship services on Saturday, June 7, or Sunday, June 8 for a talk about the Daily Office given by our very own Gene Schlesinger.
From the earliest days of the church, Christians have sought to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thess 5:17), which gave rise to the Liturgy of the Hours or Daily Office. In conjunction with Fr. Ricardo’s sabbatical, while he is participating in Evensong services in English cathedrals, St. Luke’s will hold its own choral Evensong on Sunday, June 22. To help set the stage for that, Eugene Schlesinger will provide an overview of the history and theology of this very ancient, very powerful form of prayer, and especially the distinctive contributions our own Anglican/Episcopal tradition has made to the practice of daily prayer.
